Meet The Dream Team!
The Math Guru Admin Team
When I was in high school, I failed Grade 11 math twice - TWICE! I wanted to marry Keanu Reeves and become an actress (which basically meant that I COULDN'T be good at math because duh, actresses are artsy not mathy), loved painting and drawing, and basically got kicked out of school because well, I hated school.
I believe that understanding is the path to success. Understanding how a business “moves” financially is key to decision making, goal setting and seeing if what you are doing is really working. It is also a great feeling to be able to show that someone’s dream is coming true.
I’m a very sensitive and caring person. I know very well what it’s like to struggle in school and I want students to feel comfortable and confident at our studio as school can be hard enough!
I love finding the EXHALE in a moment/situation that may seem chaotic, in order to find the elevation. What does that means?! Connection is key. I try to connect people together who can grow and inspire each other no matter what the situation. We all learn from each other, in order to ELEVATE ourselves.
The Guru Team
I think that emphasizing different learning styles and methods of problem-solving is crucial in my time with each student. Everyone experiences some setback in their efforts to understand a subject and I believe in “failing forward”.
I love when people ask me a lot of questions because they are not afraid of learning new concept and ideas. I am extremely patient with my students and understand that everyone learns at a different pace and that's okay!
I am generally a very curious person and I hope to rub off some of my excitement and passion for STEM onto my students! From my experience, curiosity coupled with determination is the ultimate driving force in life that makes each one of us unstoppable - can’t wait to share that with my students!
I want my students to feel comfortable with the material and understand what they have learned, rather than memorizing it. My goal is to guide students in developing skills to become independent lifelong learners!
I have a very introverted extroverted personality and this is an asset for me because it allows me to better understand and connect with my students on different levels. My involvement in high level sports also affects how I approach things!
When it comes to learning and teaching new material, I strive for that complete understanding that presents itself as the “light bulb” that goes off as the dots start to connect.
My student-centred approach to learning and firm belief that anyone can improve their grades, assuming they want to. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how well I explain a topic, what matters is that the student gets it!
I love inspiring students with my passion for STEM and I know that my enthusiasm shines through, which is what makes me such a great tutor!
I am patient, kind, and will always make sure you know that you are capable of great things. I've been the student who is only seen for their deficits, so I will always make a point of helping you see your strengths!
Patience and the ability to approach a problem from many different perspectives makes me a great tutor. I'm a jack-of-all-trades! I know a little, about a lot of different topics; and using that varying toolbelt from a calm, clear state of mind means I can get through to a student's understanding.
Something that makes me a great tutor is my positivity. I am such a believer in the power of being positive and faking it until you make it. Positivity is contagious and so when students see how much I believe in them, they start believing in themselves.
I am extremely patient and calm. I have learned through my years of tutoring that these traits are very important. I always encourage students to continue asking questions or speak up when they are confused.
I think what makes me a great tutor is that I love being a part of a student's journey in becoming more confident, relaxed and academically successful!
I love to see my students succeed! It gives me so much personal satisfaction knowing that I’m helping my students reach their goals of getting into competitive university programs.
I have loved Math since forever, as much as I have always loved helping others. I mean, what better combo could you have in a math tutor!?
Struggling with math and school? I’ve been there, done that - and I love helping students find their confidence and math-voice!
I approach tutoring with an empathetic and gentle framework. Throughout my tutoring sessions, I aim to encourage my students to be comfortable with making mistakes and learning from those mistakes as a way to navigate and map their own personal learning styles!
I think my best trait is my patience and understanding that everyone learns at their own pace!
I am patient and creative. I believe in the importance of listening. Listening to the student and understanding their way of thinking. I adapt my tutoring style to the needs of the individual and want the students to feel comfortable as we work through problems. Most of all, I have fun while tutoring. I smile, I laugh, and I encourage!
What sets me apart as a great tutor is my knack for clear and engaging communication. I truly believe that the ability to explain complex ideas in a way that students can easily understand is crucial, and totally my strength!
I am a great listener and the certified pep talker amongst my friends, and I always try my best to bring this enthusiasm to tutoring. I try my best to make students feel like no question is off the table and that having the confidence to fail is admirable! Math can be so fun when you get the hang of it and I believe everyone can get there!
Math has been my favorite subject for as long as I can remember and my goal is to get students to at least like math a little more by the time we're done!
It all started when I decided to challenge the notion of one either being a smart or unsmart person - categories I was guilty of putting myself into once. It all changed in Grade 6 when, with the help of the right tutor, I was able to change this mindset!
I believe that math is just not about number crunching and practice but also the art of believing in yourself!
I know the difference a great teacher can make – my university career has taught me just how big that difference can be. I always try my best to accommodate the needs of any student and create a relaxed, open atmosphere in which to learn - because that’s how learning should be!
I’m a really empathetic person; I know the learning process can be challenging but it’s most important to remember to be kind to yourself!
I'm good at understanding where a student is coming from and building a bond with them, which then allows for more honest and effective communication!
Math and Science have always been some of my most favourite subjects in school and I can’t wait to share that with my students at TMG!
A great tutor is someone inspires confidence in their students that helps them develop a love for the material (or at least makes it tolerable:) I love being that person for my students!
I am passionate about science and math and am enthusiastic about helping students get excited about the work they are doing and can definitely relate to the pressures students feel at school and am committed to helping motivate students to do their best work!
As a tutor, I believe it is just as important to learn how to study mathematics as it is to truly understand it. In addition to sharing my passion for math and its real-world applications, I like to keep a fun & light-hearted mood during every session!
I understand that learning is different for everyone. Every student has a different relationship with subjects like math and science, which always have a lot of content to cover during the school year. At times, studying can seem challenging and overwhelming. Trust me these feelings are totally valid; I’ve been there and felt like that! At the end of the day, I want to share my passion for math and science with every student and help them gain confidence in their abilities.
I have Asperger’s syndrome, so the problems I’m presented with are interpreted differently by my brain than yours. I’m gifted with the ability to approach problems from a unique and abstract (and sometimes unconventional) perspective, which lets me show you more than one way to arrive at a solution.
I really love science and math and think that they don’t have to be scary subjects, learning can be really fun! It is important to me that students don’t just know how to answer a question but can also think about the things they learn outside of a classroom setting.
I like to find out what a student is passionate about, in or outside of school, and find a way to make math relevant to their personal journey. Education isn't about about pleasing your parents or meeting the expectations of your teachers; it's an opportunity to invest in yourself, and to be better prepared to pursue your dreams, whatever they may.
I was a lazy student in high school. I learned the hard way just how important good study habits are, and that developing those habits at an early age is very beneficial. I love sports as much as I do teaching, and know very well that practice makes perfect.
I strongly believe that every student can succeed- it’s a combination of finding your learning style, growing confidence and of course, practicing. I think math and science are those subjects where you’re constantly doubting yourself and your abilities- there are times where you feel like you’re drowning in a foreign world full of numbers and equations.
